Shifting Inflexable Beliefes

Developed by Helen Hargreaves, MSW RSW, Director of Rainbow Brain

Many of the autistic clients I work with over the years have struggled to shift beliefs that once helped them, but are now hurting them.

I can think of Amy, a 20 year old who was struggling to set boundaries because she believes “good friends are nice.”

Or John, a 40 year old man, who couldn’t manage to leave a job that made him unhappy because ‘loyalty is the most important thing.”

I have started using a tool that I have adapted from EFT’s Meaning Recreation Task when these situations come up clinically, and my clients report that it is tremendously useful to help them have the life they want.

I’ve developed a training so I can share this tool with other clinicians. I’m calling it “Shifting Inflexible Beliefs: Using EFFT’s ‘Meaning Recreation Task to help autistic clients adapt beliefs and rules that no longer serve them.”

Title slide of the workshop

This will run in two parts:

  • In part one I will share the model and who I find it works for.
  • In part 2, I will offer supervision, going over participants tapes to help them refine their practice.
  • In the month between the sessions, I’m hoping participants can either tape their own clients, or partner up and record their work with someone from the group.

Dates:  Friday September 11, 10-12 EDT, and Friday October 16, 10-12 EDT.

Fee: $300 CAD for both parts

The training will be limited to 8 people. If you are interested in being one of them please
